Phil Wayne Custom “Firefox”
Well would you look at this! It almost looks like a “normal guitar”! I figured I’d make one somewhat less flamboyant for the more conventionally minded. The “Firefox” has a bound Northern Maple body with a fire red transparent resin finish, and 22 fret maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. As you can see in the pics under bright lighting conditions (i.e. sunlight), the transparent finish seems to become somewhat opaque from certain angles because of the way the resin finish reflects the light. She’s loaded with an EMG 81 in the bridge, an EMG 85 in the neck, and a Tune-O-Matic Roller Bridge.
The tone control is actually an "Active Expander Band Control Circuit". First of all, this multi tasking unit features a push/pull on/off sending the unit to a true bypass mode when you push/pull on your knob. When in the "on" position, the knob functions as a Tone Expander. In the center (knob at about 5), it is a Harmonic Boost (adds lots of Sustain, and Harmonic Boost, with a slight mid-high band shift on the EQ). As you turn your knob down, you increase the Midrange in your sound adding additional chunk and thickness to the sound. However, if you turn the knob in the other direction, you boost the High & Low end of your tone (Scooping the Mids, like a "V" shaped EQ).
This is a very lightly used instrument made in 2003 and is still in mint shape (9.5 of 10). She’s a strong sounding axe with a real nice feel, and this one won’t break the bank!
